Is it time for the website development industry to be regulated?

We say yes! I've heard some horrible stories over the past ten years - all from smart people who don't really understand the internet except that they need a website.

There’s nothing quite like the website design and development industry.

As exciting as it is, it’s the only industry where qualifications appear to mean nothing as high school kids compete with multinationals for a slice of your digital action. And your dollar.

I’m certainly not one to stifle one’s creativity with bureaucracy, but the number of horror stories smaller business operators report about the industry could put Stephen King out of a job.

Stories abound of stolen deposits, incomplete websites, websites that don’t work or do what was briefed, security issues, disappearing web designers and a host of other issues.

I’m not sure what proportion of overall business complaints are levelled at the website development industry, but judging by the stories constantly lighting up social media, it would be up there with shonky builders and used car dealers.

Large Format printing

Ever wondered how a large format printer works?

It's digital printing which means you can't print special colours like pms (pantone) or metallics but the quality and vibrance is so good these days it doesn't usually matter.

Artwork is simply supplied to us on a USB or dropbox link, which we download then send the file to the printer.

We load the stock on (vinyl, canvas, paper, adhesive, wall paper), test a few things, adjust a few things and away it goes! Check out this video.

Fathers Day!

Tomorrow is Father's Day. Our family lost dad to skin cancer just a few years ago at a way too young age so we'll be getting together tomorrow for a family gourmet bbq to remember him (not that we ever don't) and enjoy the young kids getting together and spoiling their dads. 

I'm not a big believer in these types of 'themed' dates but for those who find showing affection or gratitude difficult it's a good opportunity to show your love. 

Happy Father's Day for tomorrow.

Our supporters have seen the results of our work. Results like 14 year old Ana Clarita, who arrived in Australia in June 2014 critically ill and weighing only 24 kilos, now thriving and back at school.

We’ve assisted almost 30 patients since our informal establishment in late 2010, with positive outcomes for all.

To confirm our effectiveness, recently we commissioned an independent social return on investment study, a social cost-benefit analysis designed to measure the value of the health and social impacts created by organisations like ours.

The good news is that the research concluded that our model is highly effective and highly cost effective. The study found that for every dollar invested, our program returns $9 in health and social benefits.

This means that our supporters can give with confidence, knowing that every dollar they contribute not only changes individual lives, but provides social benefits many times over.

The study, conducted by Melbourne researchers Synergistiq, made the following findings:

• Average estimated additional years of life: 32
• Average quality of life increase: 89 per cent
• Average additional ‘quality of life years’: 28
• Value of additional years of life per patient: AU$66,304 per patient (Australian equivalent $1.3 million)
• Social return on investment: AU$1 : AU$9
